Our Story

How did we
get here?

Daren’s memories start as a very young child, my fishing memories start only a few short years ago. Daren and I met in 2012. Much of our summer days were spent on the water. Daren in the front of the boat casting for hours, me in the back of the boat doing anything but fishing! This was the case for a few YEARS. One day in 2014 I had enough and asked for a rod as they say the rest is history. Now we spend a 100 plus days on the water together! It still looks the same, Daren is in front and I’m in the back, but I am now fishing and learning each time we go out! We have solved many problems on the water, had a few arguments, I have learned how to fish and for Daren, he has dialed in on technique! During a weekend outing of fishing in 2019 in normal Daren fashion he says, “I think you’re ready to tournament fish!” I laughed and that was the end of the conversation. The next weekend we were fishing our first tournament. That was the beginning of our competitive fishing adventure. In the last four years we have come to realize just how important having tactic specific fishing rods are. We have the ability at HDS Rods to build that rod that matches a specific technique and meets the wants and/or needs of our customer. We take great pride in knowing that every rod that leaves our shop meets the customers expectations.

How did HDS come about, you ask? Last year for my birthday he called me at school to shoot me an idea. We have the opportunity to buy a rod company, what do you think? My response, “I’m in the middle of my school day, sounds great babe!” and I hung up, did not even think twice about what he had asked. I get home and he greets me at the door with a huge smile and a “Happy Birthday and congratulations you are the proud owner of a rod company!” We are now almost a year into being business owners! A year of learning and navigating a business and building custom rods that we are very proud to say we built!
